IOCL interview

First company to visit our college for campus recruitment was IOCL . it visited our college on 14th July and selected around 31 students for interview excluding Reserved list. Out of these 31 students ,12 were from Mechanical Engineering,10 from Electrical Engineering and 8 from Metallurgical Engineering. Interview was scheduled on 15th July. Mechanical guys were first to prove themselves. It started around 8:30 Am. Milan Nag was first to face the interview. Before my turn arrived 8 guys already shown their mettle in front of Interview Board, which includes 4 member including one HR.
I entered the Room after Suraj Bhagat at around 9:15Am. First question was asked by the HR- the most usual question "Tell me about yourself". Next question was related to my Project which I underwent during my summer vacation in Tata Cummins Ltd. Questions were like -Where have you done Your Project? What was the duration of the Projection? What was the Title and Objective of the Project? With these questions, there came the end of HR interview. Now it was the turn for the Technical Interview. Questions asked were as given:-

After completion of the HR interview, Technical interview begun.

Q 1.How many kinds of fluid flow are there?

Ans- I explained laminar and turbulent flow.

Q 2. Express these flow in terms of Rynold’s no.

Q 3. How many kinds of engines are there? What is the difference between SI and CI engines.

Q 4. Draw PV diagram for both Otto and Diesel cycle and explain different process.

Q 5. How many kinds of pumps are there?

Q 6. What is the difference between centrifugal and Reciprocating pumps.

Q 7. Draw Characteristic curve of the Centrifugal pump.

Q 8. What will happen if the discharge of both centrifugal and reciprocating pumps are stopped?

Q 9. What is Young Modulus?

Q 10. What is the deformation in ductile materials?

Q 11. What is the compression ratio? What is it’s value for Petrol and Diesel Engines?

I was satisfied with the way I faced the interview. It was my first interview and it was very cordial and expecting something good out of it. As i was on the 9th spot in the overall ranking of mechanical Students who faced the interview, so i was little bit in doubt whether i could get through it or not.

The students who could join IOCL finally came around 2:00Pm.3 guys from Mechanical, 3 from Electrical and 1 from Metallurgy were selected finally to join the IOCL . Hip Hip Hurrey!!!!!!!!!!!! I was one of them...............Thank God ! I have done it...............................................
